Understanding the terms

CWM / TWRP - a Recovery Software this passes extra security layers while flashing or update something like zip or ROM. WE Will show install Cwm with a recovery.img file.
SUPERSU - this will manage root permission to apps.

Note - Enable USB debugging mode. by head over to additional Settings—-> Developer Mode and enable USB Debugging. This is mandatory to flash the custom ROM.

How to Root Redmi 2

We will provide you ADB and FastBoot files. And recovery.img file to install CWM recovery.
we divided the process into some segments for ease. follow them step by step.

Total 4 Download required for rooting redmi 2

  • Download 2. CWM Recovery.img file - 9MB (For CWM) - download CWM.img (rename it to cwm.img)
or Download TWRP recovery image / Mirror 1 (rename it to twrp.img for ease)
  • Download 3. Install ADB latest 1.4 drivers Official XDA link - Download ADB Drivers
  • Download 4 SuperSu zip - download SuperSu latest zip and place the zip into SD CARD -  latest supersu zip 2.46 -  download SuperSu.zip

Follow these Steps to ROOT REDMI 2

STEP 1. Download the files and extract adb and fastboot zip on your desktop, it will create a folder where the file will be excreted. Rename the folder Anything

STEP 2. Now extract cwm.img / twrp.img zip and put the file inside the Folder (Step #1)

STEP 2 (a).  Place the Supersu zip inside your SD CARD.

STEP 3. Now it's time to plug your Xiaomi Redmi 2 to the computer, wait while Windows install the drivers (optional).

And if you observe a no-driver install situation you need to Install ADB Driver ( Download #3)

STEP 4. Now you need to enter in your phones Fastboot mode (it's required because it enable transfer directly to phones system to install CWM / twrp.img img file)

After Redmi connected to PC successful, and it shows ADB Driver installed. Now turn off your phone and start it by pressing Power button + Volume Down button at the same time. It will open Fastboot mode.



STEP 5. Now open the folder (Step #1) and press Shift and right click mouse and select open command prompt from here. see video tut here

It will open comment prompt windows box.
Now type -     fastboot devices
It will tell you if your phone is connected via fastboot mode.
Now type -  ( before check that you placed Download #2 and excrete the recovery.img file to the Redmi2 folder.)


You can rename the recovery file to cwm.img or twrp.img for ease. Now type according to your choice.
Type -  fastboot boot cwm.img 
Type - fastboot boot twrp.img
It will install the CWM or TWRP recovery, and that's what you need. Your recovery will automatically open on your phone and you can flash or modify the system. install superSu from that (read below how)

Now type - fastboot reboot  (optional)






STEP 6.

After #1  and #2 command, CWM menu will auto open in your phone.

You will see CWM/ Twrp recovery menu, select Install update from zip file, LOCATE the location where you place the Supersu zip

And proceed to flash it.

How to restore, Stock Mi recovery in Xiaomi Redmi 2.

How to UNROOT redmi 2

we think that you have SuperSu installed on your redmi 2. Open SuperSu app on your android and go to Settings click - Full Unroot. Then restart your android redmi 2.
