Hello, Friends! Are you facing the problem of Write Protection in your Pendrive or Memory Card? If yes, then you are at the right place because here we are giving tested 4 methods on How to remove write protection from Sd Card or Pendrive. Friends Write Protection is a safety function in you memory card/Pendrive. This allows to protect the content in your pen drive or Sd card from being copy or delete. Method #1

You can easily remove write protection from USB just by editing in Registry Editor. 

Step 1. First press "Windows Key + R" to open Run menu.

Step 2. Now type "Regedit" and hit enter.

Step 3. Now locate to this location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Currentcontrolset\control\storatedevicepolicies
[ If you can't find "storatedevicepolicies" after the "Control" then you need to create a new one. Just follow the instructions below ]

I. Open a new notepad file.

II. Copy this:
cd\reg add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies” /t Reg_dword /vWriteProtect /f /d 0
III. Now save the notepad file as  DISABLEWP.BAT

IV. Now copy this notepad file to the startup folder. [ If you don't know where is startup folder then you can search on google]

Step 4. Now in the Registry editor, you will see write protect option on the right side of the window. Just right click on it and then select modify and then change the Hexadecimal from 1 to 0.

Step 5. Now Restart you PC and you will see that write protection problem got solved.

Method #2

Friends if you are facing this write protection problem in your Transcend pen drive which is infected by 9u.exe which is a virus made to write protect the USB device then check this method because you pen drive can easily be treated with this method.

Step 1. Download the JetFlash online recovery tool from the official site of Transcend.

Step 2. Run the Tool and then choose the capacity of your pen drive or sd card. [Eg: 1 GB, 2 GB,etc] 

Step 3. Now you have to choose between two options i.e "repair and erase all data" or "repair and keep existing data". The first option will repair your USB device by removing all data and the second option will keep the data in pen drive and will repair.

Step 4. Now the Progress bar will start, wait till it completes.

Step 4. Then a notification will appear like this "Format Complete".

Step 4. Now Unplug and plug in your pen drive and Enjoy!

      • If above methods don't work for you then its time to change something using Command Prompt.

        Step 1. Press "Windows Key + R" to open the run menu and then type "CMD" then hit Enter.

        Step 2.  Now type "diskpart" in Cmd and then hit enter.

        Step 3. Type "list volume" then hit enter.

        Step 4.  Now type select volume #  [ # is the number of you pen drive or sd card that you've plugged in].

        Step 5. Now Type "attributes disk clear readonly".
      • If Even this method doesn't work for you then head for the last try.

Method #4

Now this is the last method which you can apply to remove write protection. So this time, we will change some read/write permission in Group Policy Object Editor. So check the below steps.

Step 1. So now open "Run" then type gpedit.msc and then hit enter.

Step 2. Now locate this path:
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Removable Storage Access
Step 3. Now we need to Disable all the "Deny read access/write access" which is related to our pen drive. Here below the settings that I have changed.

Removable Disks:  Deny execute access
Removable Disks:  Deny read access
Removable Disks:  Deny write access

Just double click on every option and then select Disabled.

Just Do the Same as above by selecting "User Configuration" instead of selecting "Computer Configuration".

[ To get Best Result Try both #1 and #4 Method]
